  • The kingdom currently owns 5,984 Bitcoin valued at around $521 million, mined using extra clean hydropower, making it the seventh-largest sovereign holder of the cryptocurrency.

Bhutan, which recently announced the TER Token (Solana-based), continues to invest in Bitcoin. In the European Union, regulations are increasing. In our previous news , we mentioned the Marshall Islands’ transition to crypto payments. Small autonomous states and independent small states are focusing on crypto.

Bhutan, a small Himalayan nation that values pleasure over money, is making waves in digital currency. The government announced the Bitcoin Development Pledge. Gelephu Mindfulness City’s construction will be funded by up to 10,000 Bitcoin. The city aims to be safe, friendly, and economically productive.

Gelephu City goes beyond housing. It’s designed to attract green energy, technology, and finance industries. A pleasant location to relax and think creatively. Tourists will bring wonderful jobs to the city. For community benefit, Bhutan urges landowners to invest in the initiative.

This is how Bhutan can employ contemporary finance while protecting people and the environment, say officials. Bitcoin promises to help save for children and grandchildren. You can soon use crypto to get loans secured by it.

Bhutan got lots of Bitcoin early on. They started years ago. They get more electricity from hydropower. Rivers provide clean, reusable power to these plants. This means no more environmental damage. Mining turns wasted energy into valuable digital assets.

Bhutan has received over 5,000 Bitcoin from this project. The new pledge may increase if mining continues. Bhutan leads the way in using bitcoin to grow enterprises, not simply trade.

This Bitcoin purchase commitment is part of a larger scheme. Bhutan is adopting blockchain to develop a national digital ID system to protect personal data. By accepting digital money from merchants and tourists, they hope to simplify things. Gold-backed token TER was released. It shows they desire secure digital money.

These steps are aimed to boost the economy beyond farming and tourism. Bhutan will become an Asian cryptocurrency hotspot if it allows banks and other financial institutions. Young people must improve technology and the globe.

With this move, Bhutan became the second country after El Salvador to place Bitcoin at the center of its national strategy. However, unlike El Salvador, Bhutan produces Bitcoin itself using hydroelectric energy (mining) rather than purchasing it.

Editor’s Note: Bhutan’s digital strategy is advancing on two separate fronts: 1) ‘Bitcoin (BTC)’ reserves used to finance the city. 2) The ‘TER’ token issued on the Solana network and backed by physical gold. These are two independent projects.
